Add Afterpay to your website

Boost sales by displaying Afterpay clearly on your website.

No matter what you sell – whether it’s clothing, camping gear or candle-making classes – your website has one job: to make it as easy as possible for customers to buy from you.

That’s where Afterpay comes in. It’s proven that merchants offering Afterpay enjoy customers who shop more frequently and who have a higher average order value1.

That’s why it’s important to let customers know you have Afterpay from the moment they enter your website through to the purchase point – the product page - and the checkout.

Here’s how to create an Afterpay buying journey.

The home page

What it is: Displaying Afterpay’s logo on your homepage.

Why it’s important: To attract customers who want to use Afterpay.

This is the first and most obvious place to tell customers you have Afterpay. You can display Afterpay on a home page banner, a dedicated module or on the footer.

Sydney vintage retailer Restated Vintage displays Afterpay’s logo prominently in the top right corner of its home page, above the fold. It is clearly visible on both desktop and mobile screens.

Northern Beaches jeweller Natalie Fitch of Natalie Marie Jewellery displays Afterpay on the product page, saying, “For us it’s about giving clients options – and driving awareness around those options.”

“Afterpay just gives the customer so much more flexibility,” says founder Ben Randall, who adds that most Restated Vintage customers are under 30. “And pretty much everyone [that] age uses Afterpay.”

Sales doubled when Restated Vintage added Afterpay. “We would have a lot less customers if we didn’t have it,” says Randall.

The product page

What it is: An Afterpay widget on your product page,

Why it’s important: To remind customers that you have Afterpay at a key point in the decision-making process - when they add to cart.

If Afterpay doesn’t appear on your product page, you could be missing out on sales. That’s because the product page is a key step in the purchasing journey; it’s the moment that customers decide to add to cart – or not.

Adding Afterpay to your product page also enables customers to visualise how their payment will be broken into four installments.

How to add Afterpay to your product page: Afterpay is automatically added to your product page as part of the integration process. However, sometimes it can drop off during website updates.

The checkout page

What it is: The payment page

Why it’s important: This is your last opportunity to close the sale. Offering Afterpay can help reduce cart abandonment.

Up to 70 per cent of online shopping carts are abandoned. One way to reduce cart abandonment – and drive more sales – is to remind customers that you offer flexible payments using Afterpay.

Rumbie Mutsiwa, the founder of Sydney hairdressing salon and beauty products brand Rumbie & Co, includes Afterpay on her checkout page. When customers select Afterpay at checkout, they are presented with a breakdown of the four payment installments.

“I think Afterpay is just brilliant. It’s genius,” says Mutsiwa.

A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page

What is it: A page dedicated to answering customer questions, including questions about payment.

Why it’s important: Navigating to a FAQ page demonstrates that a customer is carefully researching their purchase. They may simply need more information.

Help give customers the information they need to complete their purchase by including details about Afterpay on your website’s FAQ page. Consider including questions such as: What payment options do you offer? How does Afterpay work?

Remember that some customers may need more information to help them understand Afterpay and how buy-now-pay-later works.

Inclusive fashion retailer EveryHuman features a FAQ page under customer care on the footer of its home page. The FAQ includes the question: What payment options do you offer? And lists Afterpay as the buy-now-pay-later option.

“Afterpay is very visible on the home page on our website,” says Every Human founder Matt Skerritt.

How to add a FAQ section: Navigate to the footer section of your website and add an additional page for frequently asked questions. Don’t forget to include information on how Afterpay works for customers.
