How Afterpay works - for merchants

What to expect once you become an Afterpay merchant.

You've signed up to Afterpay. Now, what?

As a merchant, understanding Afterpay’s payments process is key. Not only will it give you clarity, but you’ll also be able to answer any questions from your customers.

Now that you’re an Afterpay merchant, here’s what to expect: first, integrate Afterpay into your online checkout or business terminal. Customers then make purchases as they normally do, but can split their purchase over four payments. However, you, the merchant, will be paid within days.

In short: becoming an Afterpay merchant means you can offer your customers a more flexible way to shop.

Here’s how it works…

How Afterpay works for merchants

  • A customer purchases an item from your website or business using Afterpay.
  • For online purchases, you will receive your settlement fund from Afterpay within days. For in-store purchases, because the Afterpay Card is a prepaid Visa card, funds are settled via your card payment processor or acquiring partner. We will only debit the Afterpay Card transaction fees from your nominated bank account once these funds are settled.
  • You can keep track of all payments and orders via daily settlement reports in the Afterpay Business Hub or via email.
